The Council for Geoscience (CGS) invites university students and those who completed Grade 12 to apply for a full-time CGS bursary for the 2024 academic year. Interested students have until the 23rd of February 2024 to submit their emailed applications.

About the CGS Bursary

The aim of the CGS bursary is to support the creation, development, and support of expertise in the geosciences and similar fields. It is also to establish a strong and diverse geoscience research community in South Africa and they aim to support and assist researchers in the field.

 

FIELD OF STUDY

The bursary programme is open to students who want to pursue or are pursuing a undergraduate/postgraduate qualification in the following fields:

  • Geology
  • Engineering Geology
  • Geophysics
  • Hydrogeology (focus on groundwater modelling)
  • Geochemistry
  • Economic Geology
  • Environmental Science
  • Geo-informatics
  • Remote sensing
  • Computational Geosciences
  • Mineral Economics
  • Mining seismology

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CGS BURSARY

To qualify for the Council For Geoscience Bursary you must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Must not be employed 
  • Must be available for vocational work during studies and work back upon completion of studies, when required.
  • Must be intending to study  full-time at a South African institution of higher learning for the 2024 academic year.
  • Must have completed Matric
  • Must have achieved a Level 6 or higher in Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric finals.
  • Must be a registered full time student at a South African institution of higher learning.
  • If currently studying, must have passed all the modules of the previous year/semester.
  • Preference will be given to women and students living with disabilities.

  • Registration
  • Tuition 
  • Accommodation and Meals 
  • Prescribed Books
  • Excursions/research
  • Once off laptop allowance for first-time bursary recipients. 

 

CGS BURSARY REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

  • Motivation letter
  • Certified copy of applicant’s ID 
  • Copy of latest academic record
  • An updated CV
  • Certified copy of Matric results 
  • Acceptance letter or Proof of Registration 

 

How to apply for the CGS Bursary – 2024

Applications for the Council For Geoscience Bursary must be submitted via email. Applicants need to first download the bursary application form HERE. After obtaining the application form, complete it and attach all the required documents. Send the application and documents to [email protected]  with ‘BursaryFT-2024’  as a reference 

 

CLOSING DATE:

The closing date for the CGS Bursary is the 23rd of February 2024. Incomplete and late applications will not be accepted. Visit the CGS website for more information.
