City of Johannesburg Bursary applications are now open for 2024 academic year. The City is offering 200 bursaries to South African youth, who permanently reside in Johannesburg, to pursue full-time undergraduate studies.

 

City of Johannesburg Bursary 2024 applications

The City of Johannesburg Bursary is a financial aid program offered by the City of Johannesburg Municipality to deserving students who reside within the Johannesburg metropolitan area. The bursary aims to provide financial assistance to students pursuing academic studies at recognized TVET Colleges and public Universities. 

 

The City of Johannesburg Municipality is committed to provide skills development and educational opportunities, not only for its employees, but also for the Johannesburg community members. The City is offering 200 bursaries to South African youth, who permanently reside in Johannesburg, to pursue full-time undergraduate studies.

  • Build Environment (Architecture, Construction, Inspectors)
  • Commerce
  • Community Services
  • Curatorial Studies
  • Emergency Management Services/Disaster Management
  • Engineering (All Fields)
  • Environmental Management
  • Finance (All Fields)
  • Geo Information Science
  • Health (All Fields)
  • Human Resources
  • Information Technology (All Fields)
  • International Relations and Protocol
  • Legal
  • Logistics
  • Marketing
  • Management
  • Monitoring and Evaluation

City of Johannesburg Bursary Criteria for selection (Requirements)

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must permanently reside in Johannesburg, Gauteng
  • You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • You must be studying or intend on studying full-time, towards an undergraduate qualification.
  • You must be studying or intend on studying at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa
  • You must have a strong academic record
  • You must NOT be receiving any other bursary/ grant/ other form of funding for study purposes

 

City of Johannesburg Bursary Details

The bursary is for qualifications of no less than one year.

The bursary is not applicable for postgraduate qualifications.

The bursary is renewable annually, based on academic performance/results.

The bursary covers an amount of R40 000.00 per academic year per student.

 

City of Johannesburg Required Documents

  • Certified copy of most recent academic record.
  • Certified Grade 11 and latest results, if currently in Matric
  • Certified Matric certificate, if completed Matric
  • Certified copy South African Identity Document.
  • Proof of residency in Johannesburg (statement of Water & Lights, Rates & Taxes).
  • Parents proof of income/death certificate(s) and affidavit in cases where the student does not have one or both parents

 

The City of Johannesburg Bursary covers the following expenses:

  • Tuition fees
  • Registration fees.
  • Prescribed books
  • Study material.
