Kwazulu Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) is offering bursaries to students who are residents of KwaZulu-Natal interested in pursuing a tertiary qualification for the 2024 academic year. You have until 22 December 2023 to apply!

Background of COGTA Bursary

The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) is a South African government department responsible for promoting and facilitating cooperative governance, strengthening local government, and developing traditional leadership. It plays a crucial role in ensuring effective service delivery and good governance throughout the country.

The vision of COGTA is to be a leading department in building a capable, ethical and developmental state that delivers quality services to all. Their mission is to promote good governance and service delivery through cooperative governance, vibrant local government and effective traditional leadership.

 

The bursary programme is open to students who want to pursue OR are pursuing undergraduate studies in the following fields:

  • NATIONAL DIPLOMA OR BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN:
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Computer Science
  • Law
  • Urban and Regional Planning
  • Geographical Information Systems (Geography, Remote Sensing and Cartography)
  • Land Surveying
  • Quantity Surveying / Valuation
  • Anthropology
  • Disaster Management
  • Auditing
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Risk Management

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE COGTA BURSARY

To qualify for the COGTA Bursary you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must have completed Matric
  • You must be in matric (provide Grade 11 final report and grade 12 June results)
  • You must be between the ages of 18 to 15 years
  • You must have Acceptance letter from accredited public institution of higher learning
  • You must have proof of Registration (if you are currently a student at university)
  • You must be studying or want to study towards an undergraduate qualification, within one of the fields of study listed above
  • You must be studying or want to study at a recognised and accredited institution of higher learning in South Africa (University or University of Technology)
  • You must reside in the Kwazulu Natal Province
  • Youth living with disability are encouraged to apply

 

COGTA BURSARY COVERS THE FOLLOWING:

  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation
  • Meals
  • Textbooks
  • Stipend

 

COGTA BURSARY REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

  • Your certified ID Document
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate, if completed Matric
  • Grade 11 final report and grade 12 June results if currently in matric
  • Certified copy of Full academic record, if currently studying at tertiary level
  • Proof of tertiary acceptance letter and/or registration
  • Proof of Residence
  • Certified copy of ID of parents or Guardian OR death Certificate
  • Parents or guardians income and expenditure statement
  • Parents or guardians proof of income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit or letter from the Department of Labour if unemployed)
  • Motivational Letter stating why you deserve the bursary
