About the Fermel Bursary

The Fermel Bursary aims to provide deserving students with the essential knowledge, access to higher education and experience. Fermel bursary program aims to contribute to the development of a skilled workforce for the future of the mining industry. This can improve safety, efficiency, and innovation within the sector. This bursary program is a fantastic opportunity for students who want to work in the mining industry.

FIELD OF STUDY

The bursary programme is open to students who are pursuing a undergraduate qualification in the following fields:

• Electrical Engineering
• Mechanical Engineering
• Mechatronics Engineering

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE FERMEL BURSARY

To qualify for the Fermel  Bursary you must meet the following requirements:

• Must be a South African citizen
• Must be from a previously disadvantaged background
• Must be pursuing a degree qualification within the fields of study listed above
• Entering FINAL year of study in 2024
• Must have an excellent academic record
• Must be interested in working the underground mining industry 

FERMEL BURSARY  REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

Applications for the Fermel Bursary must be submitted with the following documents:

• Certified copy of South African ID document
• Certified copy of full academic record. 
•  Certified copy of parents/ guardians ID documents
• Certified copy of parents/ guardians proof of income; latest payslips/employment letter OR affidavit if unemployed/ proof of SASSA grant if applicable/Death certificate if parents/guardians are deceased.
• Fees statement with university letterhead
• Applicants CV
• Motivational letter; stating what your field of study is and and why you choose to study your field.
