GCRA bursary applications are still open for 2024 academic year. Students are encouraged to apply before the closing date. Students have until 29 February 2024 to apply online for this amazing bursary.

BURSARY BACKGROUND

GCRA which stands for Gauteng City Region Academy is responsible for building a pool of skilled, capable and ethical workforce for the Gauteng City Region. This is done through different interventions, i.e., bursaries, internships, learnerships and skills programmes. The GCRA bursary programme is open to all qualifying youth, with particular preference given to youth from Gauteng, who wish to study for an undergraduate and/or post-graduate programme at an accredited and registered Post School Education and Training institution in South Africa. The bursary covers full cost of study, with conditions, as stipulated in the bursary contract.

 

WHAT DOES GCRA PAY FOR?  

The GCRA bursary covers the following costs:

  • Registration fees
  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation
  • Books
  • Laptop
  • Living allowance

 

WHO QUALIFIES FOR THE GCRA BURSARY? 

Individuals who qualify for the GCRA bursary are;

  • Students who completed matric in Gauteng
  • Individuals who are between the ages of 18 to 35
  • Individuals that reside in Gauteng
  • Students intending to study an undergraduate programme
  • Students who want to pursue Post-Graduate studies
  • have been accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning
  • South African Citizens

 

The following students automatically qualify, but must also complete the application form online:

  • Top Achievers from Gauteng Schools
  • Top learner from no-fee paying schools in Gauteng
  • Top 3 learner from LSEN schools in Gauteng

 

WHAT DOCUMENTS ARE NEEDED FOR GCRA BURSARY? 

To apply for the GCRA bursary you need the following documents:

  • Your certified copy of South African ID
  • Proof of Gauteng residence (utility bill or letter from ward councillor)
  • Certified Matric Certificate and or latest academic results
  • Proof of income from parent(s) or guardian(s) or affidavit
  • Letter of Motivation (not more than 2 pages)
  • Proof of registration or acceptance letter from higher learning institutions
  • Disability or medical report (where applicable)

 

How to apply for GCRA bursary online?

To apply for the GCRA bursary for 2024 online, you should follow these easy steps below;

  • Visit the GCRA website here: https://gcrabursary.gauteng.gov.za/
  • Click on the Apply/Register tab
  • Click on the go to the registration tab
  • Accept the disclaimer
  • Fill in your personal details to create an account (Register)
  • Login with your username and password
  • Input Matric final results and other academic details.
  • Select which type of bursary you’re applying for in the bursary application portal. The options are (New intake, Renewal, Reinstatement, Top achievers,  Top 3 achiever, Top 3 in LSEN, MEC/HOD Discretion (if the HOD has advised you to apply), Veteran Discretion (if you’re a child of a military veteran), Financial assistance (you required assistance) and Top-Ups (if you have an existing bursary but it’s insufficient)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 

How much does GCRA pay?

There's no fixed amount to pay students. Money is distributed based on the costs that needs to be covered for each student. for example, students staying in residence will receive a maximum amount of R65,000. Students residing off-campus or in private accommodation will receive a maximum of R47,000. On the other hand students who use transport will receive monthly transport allowance. GCRA will calculate the final amount each bursar will receive.

 

Is GCRA a loan?

GCRA is not a loan. GCRA is a bursary scheme that provides financial assistance to students from disadvantaged communities to further their studies. Bursaries are non-repayable, meaning that students do not have to repay the money they received.

 

Is GCRA bursary legit?
