As the new academic year draws closer, students need to start considering their funding options. While some students may be lucky enough to have financial support from home, many students and prospective students need to apply for funding. The exciting news is that the Nedbank bursary programme is now open for the 2025 academic year allowing students to stand a chance of being funded.

About the Nedbank Bursary programme:

The Nedbank Bursary Programme aims to financially support academically strong and deserving students through their tertiary academic journey. Through this bursary, Nedbank aims to address the skills shortage in scarce career fields such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and Green Economy skills – which are study areas that focus on improving social equity, developing strategies that help reduce environmental risks and improving the overall wellbeing of humans.   

FIELD OF STUDY

The bursary programme is open to students who want to pursue or are pursuing an undergraduate/postgraduate qualification in the following fields:

• Science
• Technology 
• Engineering
• Mathematics

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE NEDBANK BURSARY PROGRAMME. 

To qualify for the Nedbank bursary programme, you must meet the following requirements:

• You must be a South African citizen.
• You must be in matric or you must have completed matric.
• You must have passed Mathematics (Maths lit will not be accepted).
• You must have a strong academic record/results.
• You must have achieved a minimum average of 65% in the year that you are applying for the funding ( Grade 12 or University level)
• You must have been accepted to study at a South African University/ University of Technology for the 2025 academic year (first undergraduate/postgraduate qualification)
• You must be must be studying or intending to study in one of the above listed fields. 
• You must have achieved a minimum of 65% for the subjects required by the qualification required by your chosen field of study. 
• You must demonstrate financial need. 

NEDBANK BURSARY REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

• Certified copy of applicant's ID
• Certified copy of applicant's Grade 11 final results (if currently in matric)
• If currently in Matric, certified copy of Grade12 mid-year results.
• If currently studying first year at university, Matric certificate and latest mid-year results.
• If currently in second/third year of study, latest academic record and mid-year results. 
• Completed Nedbank Financial Check affidavit which can be found HERE (must be signed by applicant and parents/guardians)
• Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit additional documents

• Fill in next of kin details
• Fill in your education details
• Upload the required documents
• Submit your application

NOTE: Only applications submitted through the link provided above will be considered. 

CLOSING DATE:

The closing date for the Nedbank Bursary applications for the 2025 academic year is the 31st of July 2024. Bursary applications will be screened and shortlisted according to the qualifying criteria listed above. Shortlisted applicants will be required to undergo psychometric and other assessments and attend a virtual interview. All applicants will receive feedback about the outcome of their applications when the recruitment process is completed.
