Higher Certificate in Auxiliary Nursing

A Higher Certificate in Auxiliary Nursing is a one-year course that introduces students to a nursing profession. This is an entry course for students who do not qualify for a diploma or bachelor course in nursing. After completing the higher certificate in auxiliary nursing at North West College of Nursing students can further their studies and enrol for diploma in nursing and later enrol for advanced diploma in nursing (Midwifery).

One of the benefits of a Higher Certificate in Auxiliary Nursing course is that, once you complete the course, you are eligible to register with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as an auxiliary nurse. Registered auxiliary nurses are able to work in a variety of healthcare settings and provide basic nursing care to patients.

Higher Certificate in Auxiliary Nursing Requirements:

To apply for higher certificate in auxiliary nursing at North West College of Nursing you need to meet the following eligible requirements:

  • Grade 12 with higher certificate pass
  • Pass Mathematics
  • Pass Life Science

 

Diploma in Nursing 

The Diploma in Nursing is a 3-year course, that leads to registration with the South African Nursing Council as a General Nurse. The program consists of a theory and clinical component which must be completed in each academic year. Registered General Nurses are able to work in a variety of healthcare settings such as hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and schools.

Diploma in Nursing Requirements:

To apply for Diploma in Nursing at North West College of Nursing you need to meet the following eligible requirements:

Senior Certificate Matriculants

  • APS: 18
  • English: Symbol C Standard Grade
  • Biology/Physiology: Symbol D Higher Grade

 

National Senior Certificate Matriculants (NSC): 

  • APS: 23
  • English: Level 4
  • Life Science: Level 4
  • Any other two (2) NSC subjects: Level 4 (except Life Orientation)
