The Poliomyelitis Research Foundation (PRF) is inviting postgraduate students to apply for their bursary programme for the 2025 academic year. Interested applicants have until the 28th of February 2025 to submit their online applications.

About the PRF Bursary:

The Poliomyelitis Research Foundation bursaries are essential for advancing virology research and producing qualified virologists, which eventually benefits the public health and welfare of the country. The bursary provides financial support to students studying virology for their BSc (Hons), Masters and PhD degrees, this contributes to addressing South Africa's possible virologist shortage.

The bursary seeks to promote sustained progress in the study and management of viral diseases by supporting the upcoming generation of virology researchers. The bursary's primary objective is to support virology-related research, which is concerned with viruses and the diseases they might cause. The bursary programme is open to students who are pursuing or want to pursue a postgraduate qualification in the following fields:

  • Virology

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PRF BURSARY

To qualify for the PRF Bursary you must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen/Permanent Resident 
  • Must have achieved a minimum of 60% in your recent studies. If applying for Hons you must have achieved a minimum average of 60% in your undergraduate studies, if applying for Masters you must have achieved a minimum of 60% in your Honours studies etc. 
  • Must be registered for a postgraduate degree in the above listed fields (BscHons, Masters or PhD)

 

PRF BURSARY REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

  • CV, including publications
  • Academic Record
  • Proof of Degree Registration
  • Completed Grants Application Signatory Form. 
  • Masters applicants: Proof of BScHons completion
  • PhD applicants: Proof of MSc completion
