Look no further, The South African Clothing and Textile Workers Union (SACTWU) is accepting bursary applications for the 2024 academic year. SACTWU members, their children, spouses and dependants are encouraged to apply.

About the SACTWU Bursary

The South African Clothing and Textile Workers Union (SACTWU) bursary program assists members and their families in meeting the expense of pursuing higher education. By supporting individuals in pursuing higher education, the program aims to empower them to contribute to the development of their communities.

 

FIELD OF STUDY

The bursary programme is open to students who want to pursue or are pursuing a undergraduate qualification in ANY field of study.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SACTWU BURSARY

To qualify for the SACTWU Bursary you must meet the following requirements:

  • SACTWU member must have paid up the SACTWU union fees by the end of  July 2023
  • Must be a SACTWU qualifying member
  • Must be SACTWU qualifying member’s spouse
  • Must be a SACTWU qualifying member’s child
  • Must be a SACTWU qualifying member's legally adopted child (25 years or younger and unemployed)
  • Must be studying OR want to study at an accredited South African tertiary institution registered with the Department of Higher Education (University, University of Technology, Private Colleges registered with the Department of Higher Education – the bursary does NOT fund studies at FET / TVET College)

 

SACTWU BURSARY COVERS:

  • Tuition fees

Note: The SACTWU Bursary will cover 75% of tuition fees (Maximum value: R23 450) for studies at public universities and R4 690 for private institutions. 

 

SACTWU BURSARY REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

  • Certified copy of  student’s ID document
  • ID size photo of the applicant
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate, if in first year of study 
  • If currently studying, certified copy of academic record for all previous years of study. 
  • Certified copy of detailed financial statement from institution for 2024, with cost per module  
  • Certified Copy of SACTWU members ID document. 
  • Certified copy of SACTWU members latest payslips. 
  • If the SACTWU member is the applicants biological parent, certified copy of unabridged birth certificate with parents names. 
  • If the SACTWU member is the applicants legal guardian, certified copy of valid letter of guardianship form Department of Social Development / Court Order, member’s marriage certificate and both member and spouse identity documents, death certificate of student’s biological parents. 
  • If the SACTWU member is the applicants spouse, Certified copy of member’s marriage certificate and member and spouse identity documents
  • If SACTWU member has been retrenched, submit affidavit from member regarding status of employment
  • For part-time or correspondence studies, submit affidavit from student stating employed/ unemployed and latest payslip if employed
  • If a SACTWU member child dependant, submit completed SASU joining application form which can be found HERE.

To apply for the SACTWU Bursary, qualifying  students can download the application form HERE. After downloading the form, complete and submit the bursary application form and the required documents via post or hand delivery to the following addresses:

CLOSING DATE:

The closing date for the SACTWU Bursary  is on the 28th of February 2024 for full year and first semester students. 11th of August 2024 for second semester students. Late applications will not be accepted. For more information visit the SACTWU website
