About the Santam Bursary programme:

The Santam Bursary Programme is an excellent opportunity for South African students looking for financial support to pursue studies in fields relevant to the insurance industry. The Santam Bursary Programme was formed as part of the Skills Development Academy by Santam, the programme aims to generate a consistent flow of competent, capable, and highly qualified graduates with fundamental technical capabilities as well as behavioural and leadership competencies.

FIELD OF STUDY

The bursary programme is open to students who want to pursue or are pursuing an undergraduate/postgraduate qualification in the following fields:

• Actuarial Science
• Data Analytics
• Data Sciences
• Statistics
• Agriculture
• Civil Engineering
• Geomatics Engineering
• Insurance 
• Technical Accounting
• Economics
• Finance
• Mathematics
• Reinsurance
• Risk Management
• Underwriting

SANTAM BURSARY PROGRAMME COVERS THE FOLLOWING EXPENSES:

• Registration/Tuition fee
• Learning materials 
• Laptops
• Monthly allowance
• Accommodation (including Deposit, admin fees, etc.)
• Travel/Transport allowance

Additional Benefits for Agriculture students:

Agriculture students will receive the following benefits:

• Mentorship
• Vacation work
• Automatic entry in the Santam graduate programme
• Opportunity to join relevant business engagements and conferences, as required
• Possible permanent employment as trainee area managers for graduates 

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SANTAM BURSARY PROGRAMME. 

To qualify for the Santam bursary programme, you must meet the following requirements:

• You must be a South African citizen
• You must be studying towards a Postgraduate Diploma, Bachelor’s degree, Honours degree in one of the qualifications listed above.
• You must be starting your second, third or final year of undergraduate studies or Honours studies, in 2025.
• You must be studying at a recognised and registered tertiary institution in South Africa
• You must have achieved a minimum of 65% in your undergraduate studies and recent examinations.
• You must be interested in pursuing a career within the short-term insurance industry

NB: Agriculture students must meet the following requirements: 

• You must be studying a two/three Agricultural qualification that focuses on crop production OR an Agricultural degree/diploma with plant production and/or soil science as preferred subjects. 
• You must be assertive with good communication skills (verbal and written). 
• You must have Microsoft Excel skills
• You must have good negotiation skills
• You must have good interpersonal skills with a strong customer focus. 
• You must be a flexible, self-motivated team-worker. 

SANTAM BURSARY REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

• Certified copy of applicant's ID
• Certified copy of applicant's Matric certificate and full academic records/transcripts
• Proof of combined household income
• Proof of residence

The closing date for the Santam bursary programme applications for the 2025 academic year is the 30th of September 2024. Remember to read through the application rules before you begin your application. Late applications will unfortunately not be considered.
