Polokwane – The University of Limpopo (UL) has confirmed that late registrations for the 2026 academic year are open in the faculties of humanities, management & law, Science and Agriculture for the returning students.

The university of Limpopo late registrations are allowed to accommodate students who were unable to finalise their studies during the main registration period due to funding delays and administrative challenges.

Late registration at the University of Limpopo is not an automatic process and is subject to strict institutional rules. According to the university, late registrations are only permitted for programmes where space is still available and where academic departments have granted approval.

This means that not all faculties or qualifications will be open for late registration, particularly those that are already full or have reached capacity due to high demand.

Who Qualifies for Late Registration?

Late registrations currently open at the University of Limpopo are mainly intended for returning students who are already UL students entering their second, third or 4th year of study.

Registration Process and Requirements

Late registration at UL takes place both online and on campus. Returning students and first-year students with confirmed offers are usually required to log into the university’s student portal to complete the process. Those instructed to report to campus must ensure that they have all required documentation.

Key documents include a valid South African ID or passport, certified copies of final matric results, proof of acceptance, and proof of funding or registration fee payment. NSFAS-funded students must ensure that their funding status reflects as approved on the system before attempting to register.

It is important to note that late registration fees may apply. The university reserves the right to charge penalties for registering after the official deadline, and these fees are non-negotiable.

NSFAS and Funding Considerations

Funding remains one of the biggest challenges for students registering late. The University of Limpopo works closely with the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) to verify eligible students, but delays in funding confirmation can affect registration timelines.

Students are strongly advised to regularly check their NSFAS status and ensure that their information matches what is on the UL system.

Self-funded students or those supported by bursaries must provide proof of payment or sponsorship before registration can be finalised. Failure to do so may result in registration being blocked, even if academic admission has been granted.

Important Warnings to Applicants

The University of Limpopo has cautioned students against relying on unverified information circulating on social media. Fake notices about walk-in registrations and guaranteed placement have become increasingly common during peak registration periods.

The university has reiterated that all official updates will be communicated through its website, official social media platforms, and direct student communication.

Prospective students are also warned against individuals or agencies claiming they can secure admission in exchange for payment. UL has made it clear that no third party has the authority to offer placements on behalf of the institution.

What Students Should Do Now

Students hoping to register late for the 2026 academic year are encouraged to prepare all documentation in advance, monitor official announcements daily, and respond promptly to any communication from the university. Visiting the campus without instruction is discouraged, as it may lead to unnecessary costs and disappointment.

As the higher education sector continues to face pressure from growing enrolment demand, late registration opportunities remain limited and highly competitive.

The University of Limpopo has stressed that meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee placement, especially during the late registration phase.

For the latest updates, students are advised to regularly check the University of Limpopo’s official communication channels as the 2026 academic year registration process unfolds.
