About the Sibona Ilanga Trust Bursary

The Sibona Ilanga Trust is a community trust that owns shares in the De Aar Solar Power plant. Its mission is to give back to the local communities within a 50km radius of the plant by helping individuals grow and improve their lives.

One way the Trust does this is through its bursary programme, which supports students who want to study at universities, universities of technology, or public and private TVET colleges in South Africa. Whether you're studying a diploma, degree, or doing skills training like plumbing or bricklaying – this bursary is here to help.

 

Fields Covered by the 2026 Sibona Ilanga Trust Bursary

The Sibona Ilanga Trust Bursary covers a wide range of study areas, including:

  • National diploma programmes
  • University degree programmes
  • NQF level 6 technical programmes
  • Skills training (e.g. plumbing, bricklaying, etc.)
  • Training programmes at public/private TVET colleges

 

Requirements for the 2026 Sibona Ilanga Trust Bursary

To qualify for this bursary, you must:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Live within a 50km radius of the De Aar Solar Power plant
  • Have been accepted at a recognised public or private tertiary education or training institution in South Africa
  • Be planning to study towards a diploma, degree, or NQF level 6 technical or skills training programme
  • Have completed your NSC or NTC in a previous year or recently
  • Show proof of financial need
  • Submit a completed application form with all supporting documents

 

Required Documents for the 2026 Sibona Ilanga Trust Bursary

  • Certified copy of your ID document
  • Certified copy of your Grade 12 certificate, latest school report, or NTC certificate
  • Proof of residential address (to confirm you live within 50km of the De Aar Solar Power plant)

  • Parents’/guardian’s proof of income or affidavit if unemployed
