Not confident in your maths marks? Don’t worry—there are still plenty of study options available at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). While many qualifications do require Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, there are a number of programmes that accept students without standard maths or allow Mathematical Literacy as an alternative. Here’s a breakdown of CPUT courses you can consider in 2026—even if you didn’t take pure maths.
CPUT’s teaching qualifications place a stronger emphasis on language and subject specialisation than maths. These courses are open to students with suitable language marks and subject combinations—even without pure mathematics:
Mathematical Literacy is accepted
Language and elective subject marks are more important
Many business-related diplomas accept Mathematical Literacy or even no maths at all:
Mathematical Literacy accepted
Some courses focus more on Business Studies, Economics or CAT
Creative programmes often focus on portfolios, talent, and design skills rather than maths ability:
Mathematical Literacy accepted or not required
English and creative subjects like Visual Arts, Design, or CAT preferred
Portfolio may be required for admission
Struggling with maths shouldn’t hold you back from pursuing a career you're passionate about. At CPUT, there are a variety of qualifications that welcome students without Mathematics—focusing instead on communication, creativity, business acumen, and community impact.
Whether you dream of becoming a teacher, a public relations specialist, or an entrepreneur, there’s a place for you at CPUT. Don’t let one subject define your future—explore your options and apply for 2026.
