The Department of Human Settlements has opened applications for its 2026 Scholarship Programme.

This scholarship is for young South Africans who want to study in Human Settlements–related fields at a recognized institution of higher learning.

 

Application Dates

  • Applications open: 22 December 2025
  • Applications close: 07 January 2026

Late applications will not be accepted.

 

Who Can Apply?

You may apply if you meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • You are a South African citizen
  • You have exceptional matric results
  • You need financial support
  • You are a youth or undergraduate student
  • You have no previous tertiary qualification

Funding is available for the following Human Settlements–related qualifications:

  • Architecture / Architectural Technology
  • Construction Management / Construction Science
  • Civil Engineering
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Town and Regional Planning / Urban and Rural Studies
  • Quantity Surveying
  • Land Survey
  • Building Survey

 

What Does the Scholarship Cover?

Paid by the Scholarship

The Human Settlements Scholarship covers:

  • Registration fees
  • Tuition fees
  • Prescribed textbooks and course material
  • Residence fees
  • Meals

Additional Support Provided

The scholarship may also cover:

  • Monthly or stipend allowance
  • Transport costs
  • Photocopying
  • Bridging courses
  • Membership affiliations

Application Requirements

You must submit all the following documents:

  • Completed application form from the Department of Human Settlements website
  • Certified copy of your South African ID
  • Certified copy of your June or December matric results
  • Proof of residence
  • Provisional acceptance letter from a higher education institution
  • Proof of financial status (parents’ or guardians’ salary slip)
  • Certified copies of parents’ or guardians’ ID documents
