If you’re a first-time entering first-year student at UP, you could qualify for the Fly@UP Assist Awards 2026 – automatically granted to high-achieving students. You don’t need to apply!
For Umalusi School-Leaving Certificates (NSC, IEB, SACAI)
Award A – Academic Excellence
- 80% – 89.99% → R18 000
- 90% – 100% → R45 000
Award B – Subject Excellence (only if Award A is achieved)
- High marks in Mathematics or Physical Sciences subjects → R2 000 per subject
Important: Excludes Life Orientation, Practical Music Grades 4–5, and students who previously registered at any tertiary institution.
For International Qualifications
CAIE / IBDP Students can receive up to R30 000 per student:
- A-Level / AS-Level / IBDP high symbols → R5 000 per symbol (once per subject)
Other Fly@UP Awards
- JuniorTukkie Grade 11 Empowerment Week Award: R16 000
- Grade 12 Dux Scholar Award: R10 000
- Vice-Chancellor’s Previously Disadvantaged Group Award: R15 700
- Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Merit Award (VCDMA): up to R150 000
Awards are automatic, subject to fund availability, and only for first-time entering students. Discontinued or excluded students forfeit the award.
