About the Gauteng Department of e-government Bursary:
The Gauteng Department of e-Government Bursary is an initiative of the Gauteng Department of e-Government, which is responsible for the implementation of e-government initiatives in the Gauteng province of South Africa. The bursary programme was established in 2022 to address the shortage of skilled ICT professionals in the province. The programme also aims to promote the use of e-government services and to develop the ICT skills of the Gauteng workforce.
The bursary programme is open to students who are pursuing or want to pursue undergraduate studies in the following fields:
- Computer Engineering
- Computer Science
- Geo-informatics
- Data Science
- Graphic Design
- Informatics and Information Systems
- Information Technology (IT)
- Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
- Multimedia and Interactive Media
- Software Engineering and Software Development
GAUTENG DEPARTMENT OF e-GOVERNMENT BURSARY REQUIREMENTS
To qualify for the Gauteng Department of e-Government 2024 bursary, you need to meet the following requirements:
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must be between 18 and 35 years old
- You must be currently in Matric (in 2023) or have completed Matric
- You must be studying or intend on studying towards an undergraduate qualification
- You must be registered/ admitted to study at a public university or University of Technology in South Africa
- You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% for the subjects aligned to your chosen qualification
- You must be in financial need
- Bursaries are only offered to students whose place of residence is within the Gauteng Province
- Preference to be given to Applicants from Sedibeng, Ekurhuleni and Tshwane

To apply successfully for the Gauteng Department of e-Government 2024 Bursary you need the following documents:
- Your certified copy of South African ID
- Grade 12 Midyear Results if you are in Matric
- Current Academic Year results (2023) if you are in your first or second Academic Year at the University or University of Technology
- A copy of the latest pay slip(s) of employment not older than three months of guardian or parent(s)
- Confirmation letter from SASSA, for those who are receiving income grants
- An affidavit confirming unemployment of guardian or parent(s)
