You are done writing your final matric exams and now you are waiting for your matric results. You might be wondering when are matric results released and how to check matric results. In this blog post, we will cover everything you need to know about checking matric results.

Matric results for the class of 2023 will be available on the 19th of January 2024 06:00 am. On the 12th of January 2024 Umalusi will approve the release of results and Angie Motshekga the minister of basic Education will officially announce the matric results on the 18th of January. On the 19th  of January 2024 the results will be released to matriculants, schools and media.

How to check matric results by SMS

The most popular way of getting your matric results is through an SMS. To do this, simply send your ID number and matric exam number to 45856 . You will get a confirmation SMS once you’ve successfully registered. This service is not free, you will be charged R1.50 to register to receive your matric results immediately when they are released. Free SMSs do not apply.

How to check matric results using an ID number 

To access your results with only your ID number, you need to download the MatricsMate App HERE OR any other app stores. After downloading the app you will prompted to enter your ID number then your results will be displayed as soon as they are available.

How to check matric results at school

This is the most popular and old way of receiving your matric results. Visit the school where you wrote your grade 12 exams and fetch your national senior certificate statement. The results are usually available at school from 9am. Most matriculants prefer the online or SMS method because it is faster. 

How to check matric results in a Newspaper

Matric results are published in local newspapers shortly after they are officially released. This traditional method can be useful for those without internet access. The newspapers now display only exam numbers unlike the old days where the full names of the learners were displayed. 

How can I get matric results in Gauteng? 

Matriculants in Gauteng Province can access their final matric results through the GPG matric app. This is a web based app for matriculants to check their results from the comfort of their home as soon as they are released.

6. How to check matric results by USSD

Another way to check your matric results is by using the USSD service. To do this, dial *120 *45856# on your phone. You will be prompted to enter your ID number. Once you have entered your ID number, your exam results will then be sent to your phone once they are available. You will receive your results per subject via SMS. The USSD service will be charged R1.50 per minute.
