The Master Builders Association Development Trust (MBADT) invites eligible students from the Western Cape to apply for its 2026 Construction & Built Environment Bursary Programme. This bursary supports students who wish to pursue careers in the construction, engineering and project management sectors.
Fields of Study Funded
The bursary supports studies in the following qualifications:
- BSc Civil Engineering
- Diploma in Construction (Extended & Mainstream)
- BSc Construction Studies
- BSc (Hons) in Construction Management
- Advanced Diploma in Construction
- BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying
- Advanced Diploma in Quantity Surveying
- MSc in Project Management
- Advanced Diploma in Construction Health & Safety
- Master of Construction
- Other Master’s degrees (subject to a motivated application)
What the Bursary Covers
The MBADT bursary covers:
- Tuition fees only, at an amount determined by the Trust
- Payments are made in two instalments:
- First payment after approval
- Second payment after a mid-year academic performance review
The bursary is awarded for one academic year and may be renewed if performance criteria are met.
Who Can Apply?
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen
- Have completed schooling in the Western Cape
- Be studying or intending to study at a tertiary institution in the Western Cape
- Be in a household with income between R350 000 and R600 000 per year
- Not qualify for NSFAS or receive funding from SETA (CETA) or other bursaries
- Be studying towards a construction-related qualification
Preference is given to:
- Family members or employees of Master Builders Association Western Cape member companies
- Applicants employed by an MBAWC member company for at least 24 months
Required Documents
Applicants must submit:
- Completed application form
- Certified copies of all required documents
- Most recent academic results
- Signed income affidavit

- Applicants must apply for admission to a Western Cape institution separately
