The Master Builders Association Development Trust is inviting eligible students to apply for its 2026 bursary. This opportunity is designed to support aspiring professionals in the built environment who require financial assistance to further their studies.

Below is a clear breakdown of the requirements, conditions, supported study fields, and key dates to help you prepare a strong application.

 

Important Application Guidelines

To ensure your application is considered, carefully follow the instructions below:

  • Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
  • Applications close on 16 January 2026.
  • Bursaries are awarded only for the year of application (2026).
  • Submit your most recent academic record with your application.
  • All supporting documents must be certified copies—do not include originals.
  • Applicants are responsible for securing admission to a tertiary institution in the Western Cape.
  • Funding is granted for one academic year and may be renewed if requirements are met.
  • Tuition fees are paid directly to institutions in two instalments:
    • First payment: after approval
    • Second payment: after a mid-year academic performance review with MBADT Trustees
  • The bursary covers annual tuition fees only, up to an amount determined by the Trust.
  • Successful applicants will be notified by 13 February 2026.
  • Once selected, students must accept or decline the offer within 3 working days.
  • The bursary recipient must provide the institution’s latest tuition invoice/statement before payment is made.
  • If you do not receive communication by 17 February 2026, your application was unsuccessful.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for consideration, applicants must meet the following:

  1. Be a South African citizen who completed schooling within the Western Cape.
  2. Intend to study in one of the supported disciplines (listed below).
  3. Not qualify for NSFAS, any other bursary scheme, or SETA (CETA) funding.
  4. Submit a completed affidavit confirming a combined household income of R350 000 – R600 000 per year.
  5. Preference may be given to:
    • Family members or employees of a Master Builders Association Western Cape member company.
    • Applicants employed by an MBAWC member company that is BIBC-compliant for at least 24 uninterrupted months.
  6. All required documents must be submitted, unless a delay is formally communicated.
  7. There is no age restriction for applicants.

The MBADT bursary supports a range of qualifications in the built environment, including:

  • BSc Civil Engineering
  • Diploma in Construction (including Extended Course)
  • BSc Construction Studies
  • BSc (Hons) in Construction Management
  • BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying
  • Advanced Diploma in Construction
  • Advanced Diploma in Quantity Surveying
  • Advanced Diploma in Construction Health & Safety
  • MSc in Project Management
  • Master of Construction
  • Other Master’s-level studies (subject to motivation)
