General Admission Requirements for NMU Higher Certificates

To be considered for a Higher Certificate at NMU, you must meet the minimum National Senior Certificate (NSC) statutory requirements. A fundamental requirement is achieving at least 30% in English, as it is NMU's primary language of instruction. Admission is competitive, and your Application Point Score (APS) will be calculated based on six Grade 12 NSC subjects, typically excluding Life Orientation.

An interesting aspect of the APS calculation is that students from quintile 1-3 schools who score 50% or higher in Life Orientation can receive an additional 7 bonus points. Your APS calculation must include your Home Language, First Additional Language, and either Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, or Technical Mathematics, along with your best relevant subject marks.
