The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) is offering bursary opportunities to postgraduate students wishing to study towards a Masters or PhD qualification. Interested students have until the 9th of February 2024 to submit their applications.

About the NERSA Bursary
The NERSA Bursary aims solve the skills gap in the South African energy industry by offering financial support to postgraduate students pursuing studies in significant fields such as electricity, piped-gas, and petroleum pipelines. By supporting postgraduate studies (Masters and PhD), NERSA seeks to cultivate future experts who can contribute to effective and efficient energy regulations.
FIELD OF STUDY
The bursary programme is open to students who are pursuing OR want to pursue a postgraduate qualification in the following fields:
- Electricity (regulatory related qualification)
- Piped-Gas (regulatory related qualification)
- Petroleum pipelines (regulatory related qualification)
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE NERSA BURSARY
To qualify for the NERSA Bursary you must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be studying or intend to study a postgraduate qualification (Masters/ PhD)
- Must be studying or accepted to study at a University or University of Technology
- Must have a STRONG academic record
- Must be interested in pursuing a career in the energy industry
- Must come from a previously disadvantaged background
- Must not be funded by any other bursary provider
NERSA BURSARY COVERS:
- Registration
- Tuition fees
- Accommodation
- Prescribed textbooks
- Laptop
NERSA BURSARY REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
- Motivation letter of approximately 500 words
- Certified copy of the ID of the applicant
- University acceptance letter for a Masters or PhD Degree
- Certified full academic record of highest qualification from a tertiary institution
- Dissertation topic and an abstract
- Proof of income of parents/legal guardians (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed, proof of grant or pension if applicable)
- Certified ID copies of parents or legal guardians
