The South African Association for Food Science and Technology (SAAFoST) Foundation is inviting students to apply for their 2024 Undergraduate Bursary. The deadline for applicants to submit their completed emailed applications is January 31st, 2024.

About the SAAFoST Undergraduate Bursary

SAAFoST is a non-profit national association of food science and other technical experts, it aims to advance knowledge in food science and technology. The SAAFoST Bursary program aims to help remove financial barriers and make food science and technology education more accessible to a wider range of individuals. This programme Addresses skills shortages in the food science and technology sector by supporting students who are passionate about pursuing careers in this field. By providing them with the necessary financial and academic support, the program helps to ensure that there is a pipeline of qualified professionals entering the workforce.
 

FIELD OF STUDY

The bursary programme is open to students who are pursuing undergraduate qualification in the field of Food Science and Technology

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE FOR SAAFoST UNDERGRADUATE BURSARY

To qualify for the SAAFoST Bursary you must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen OR permanent resident (resident within South Africa for a minimum of 3 years before applying)
  • Must have completed matric 
  • Must demonstrate Excellent academic achievement or demonstrate potential.
  • Must be enrolled in full-time undergraduate study for a first degree or diploma in the field of Food Science and Technology at a South African Tertiary Institution
  • You must have been an SAAFoST member for a minimum of 12 months before applying for this bursary
  • You must be studying at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
  • Must be able to complete your chosen study programme within the prescribed period or the following period:

Bachelor's Degree (up to B.Sc. (Hons) - 4 years

Bachelor's Degree - 4-year  or higher diploma

Bachelor's Degree - 3 years

 

SAAFoST UNDERGRADUATE BURSARY COVERS:

  • Tuition fees (Max R40 000 per annum)

Note: The payment is given directly to the tertiary institution once a year in two payments, with the first instalment dependent on a satisfactory final mark for the previous year of study and the second dependent on satisfactory first semester results.

 

SAAFoST UNDERGRADUATE BURSARY REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

  • Certified copy of  ID or RSA passport.
  • Certified copy of  most recent academic results.
  • Head and shoulders passport-size photograph.
  • Personal Statement: One A4 page describing how your education and skills in food science and technology can benefit your life and the scientific community.
  • Proof of registration at Tertiary Institution for 2024.
  • Reference Letter: A reference letter that speaks to the applicant's character, written by someone at the tertiary institution that knows the applicants learning capacity.

CLOSING DATE:
