South West Gauteng TVET College has announced a major bursary opportunity for its students, following the release of funding from the Services Sector Education and Training Authority (Services SETA). The bursary programme is set to benefit 200 qualifying students and aims to ease the financial burden of tertiary education for unemployed learners who are not already receiving financial aid.

The announcement was issued by the Office of the Principal at South West Gauteng TVET College, confirming that the funding will be administered under strict eligibility and compliance conditions. According to the college, the bursary is intended to support access to education while ensuring accountability and fair distribution of limited resources.

Strict Eligibility Criteria Apply

To qualify for the Services SETA bursary, applicants must meet the following several key requirements:

  • Students must be registered at South West Gauteng TVET College
  • Students must not be receiving funding from any other bursary scheme OR from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) (This condition is aimed at preventing double funding and ensuring that assistance reaches students with no other financial support).
  • Applicants are required to submit an affidavit declaring unemployment, confirming that they are not currently employed.
  • Supporting documents must also include a certified copy of the student’s identity document, which must be no older than six months, as well as proof of registration and the most recent fee statement.

NB: The college has emphasized that only students who submit complete and accurate documentation will be considered for the bursary.

What the Bursary Covers

Each successful applicant stands to receive a bursary valued at R80,000. The funding package covers a wide range of study-related costs, making it a comprehensive support solution for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The bursary will pay for tuition and registration fees, ensuring that students can continue their studies without interruption. It also includes an accommodation and living allowance, which is particularly important for students who live far from campus or lack stable housing.

In addition, the bursary provides funding for learning materials, as well as a once-off laptop, recognising the growing importance of digital access in modern education and skills development.

The college has made it clear that all documentation must be fully completed at the office, and late or incomplete submissions may not be accepted.

With only 200 bursary slots available, competition is expected to be high.

Supporting Skills Development and Access to Education

South West Gauteng TVET College plays a critical role in skills development and vocational training in Gauteng and beyond. By partnering with Services SETA, the institution continues to expand opportunities for students who may otherwise struggle to afford post-school education.

This bursary initiative aligns with national efforts to reduce youth unemployment, improve access to technical and vocational education, and equip young South Africans with practical, job-ready skills.

Eligible students are urged to visit their campus offices as soon as possible to confirm requirements and submit their applications before the closing date.
