About Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University Bursary:

The primary aim of the Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University Accounting Bursary is to alleviate the financial burden of tuition and study-related expenses for deserving students pursuing accounting qualifications at Nelson Mandela University. This programme specifically target students from the "missing middle" income group. 

The Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University Accounting Bursary cultivate a new generation of skilled accounting professionals who are equipped to contribute to South Africa's financial and economic development. It also ensures that financial constraints do not hinder talented students from accessing quality education and pursuing careers in accounting.
 

FIELD OF STUDY

The bursary programme is open to students who are pursuing or want to pursue an undergraduate/postgraduate qualification in the following fields at the Nelson Mandela University:

  • BCom Accounting or BCom Accounting Sciences (1st Year)
  • BCom General Accounting (2nd and 3rd year)
  • BCom Accounting: Chartered Accounting (2nd and 3rd year)
  • BCom Accounting Sciences (2nd, 3rd & 4th year)
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA-CTA);
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy (PGDA); or
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Internal Auditing (PGDIA).

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE TEGKOR/NELSON MANDELA UNIVERSITY BURSARY

Requirements for first year students:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must have completed Matric
  • Must have achieved excellent academic results in Matric
  • Must have achieved a minimum result of 80% for Mathematics in Matric OR a minimum Applicant Score (AS) of 420
  • Must be admitted to study towards a BCom Accounting or BCom Accounting Sciences qualification at Nelson Mandela University
  • Must be studying full-time towards your 1st year of study in 2025
  • Preference will be given to students in financial need (who form part of the “missing middle” i.e. with a household income of between R350 000 and R600 000 per annum)
     

Requirements for second and third year students:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be studying towards a BCom General Accounting, BCom Accounting (Chartered Accounting) or BCom Accounting Sciences qualification at Nelson Mandela University
  • Must be in your 2nd or 3rd year of full-time study in 2025
  • Must have achieved excellent academic results: a minimum average of 70% for 2024 studies for 1st year modules OR a minimum average of 65% for 2024 studies for 2nd year modules
  • Must have made a big contribution to society or others during 2024 – social commitment will be assessed based on evidence submitted by the student
  • Preference will be given to students in financial need (who form part of the “missing middle” i.e. with a household income of between R350 000 and R600 000 per annum)
     

Requirements for Postgraduate Students:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be entering your Postgraduate studies towards an Accounting qualification at Nelson Mandela University in 2025
  • Must be currently studying full-time towards a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA-CTA), Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy (PGDA) or Postgraduate Diploma in Internal Auditing (PGDIA) qualification at Nelson Mandela University
  • Must have achieved excellent academic results: a minimum weighted average of 60% for your 3rd year of undergraduate studies OR a minimum weighted average of 55% in your PGDA programme
  • Preference will be given to students in financial need (who form part of the “missing middle” i.e. with a household income of between R350 000 and R600 000 per annum)

 

TEGKOR/NELSON MANDELA UNIVERSITY BURSARY REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

Required Documents for first year students:

  • Certified ID document copy
  • Certified copy of matric certificate
  • Parent or guardians proof of income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed)
     

Required documents for second and third year students:

  • ID document (copy – does NOT have to be certified)
  • Parents or guardians proof of income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed)
  • Full academic record or transcripts (copy only)
  • Documented evidence of contribution to society (testimonials which should include: project description, duration of involvement in in each project, difference the project and how many people benefited from the project)
     

Required documents for postgraduate students:

  • Certified ID document copy
  • Parents or guardians proof of income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed)
  • Full academic record or transcripts (copy only)
