The University of Johannesburg (UJ) has officially opened registration for the 2026 academic year. All admitted students, whether you are a first-year, returning, or postgraduate student, must complete their registration within the official registration window to secure their place.

Below is everything you need to know to register successfully without delays.

UJ 2026 Registration Dates

Make sure you register within the correct period for your category:

  • Senior & Returning Students: 12 January – 6 February 2026
  • First-Year Students: 13 January – 6 February 2026 (Subject to Grade 12 results release dates)

Late registration may not be allowed, especially for full courses.

Registration Information Letters

UJ has released different registration guides depending on your student category. These letters explain step-by-step how to register online:

  • New First-Year Undergraduate Registration
  • Returning Undergraduate Registration
  • New Postgraduate Registration
  • Returning Postgraduate Registration
  • College of Business and Economics Extended First-Year Registration
  • Learning With Technology Letter (First Years)
  • Centre for Academic Technologies Letter

Each admitted student must read the correct letter before registering.

UJ Uses Facial Recognition for Registration

To improve security and prevent fraud, UJ has introduced facial recognition as part of the registration process.

All new students creating a uLink password for the first time will receive an SMS with a personalised verification link.
You must complete a facial scan before you can continue with registration.

This ensures:

  • Your identity is verified
  • Your account is protected from impersonation
  • No one can register on your behalf

Important Fraud Warning

UJ has warned students and parents about scammers operating on and around campuses.

Some people pretend to be:

  • University staff
  • Student leaders
  • Residence or bursary agents

They ask for money in exchange for:

  • Admission
  • Residence
  • NSFAS
  • Registration help

After being paid, they disappear or make fake payments that later get reversed — leaving the student in debt.

UJ is a cashless institution.
No staff member or student is allowed to take money for any service.

To report fraud:

Changes or Cancellations After Registration

From 9 February 2026, any request to:

  • Cancel studies
  • Change qualification
  • Change modules

Must be submitted directly to your Faculty or College office.

UJ Registration Survey – Win R1,000

UJ has launched a registration satisfaction survey.

Once you complete the survey, you will be entered into a draw where five students will each win R1,000 toward their 2026 tuition.

You can access the survey depending on where you registered:

  • Online Off-Campus
  • Online On-Campus

Library Fines & Blocks

Library fines can be paid online, but blocks will only be lifted three days after payment once UJ receives the funds.
Do not wait until registration day to settle your fines.
