UKZN is now accepting applications for the 2025 academic year
As of 01 March 2024, University of Kwazulu Natal is accepting applications for the 2025 academic year. Prospective students are encouraged to apply online through the CAO website. Applications will remain open until 30 September 2024.
University of Kwazulu Natal - 2025 Applications
Whether you're interested in pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate studies, UKZN offers different study programmes across various disciplines. From agriculture, engineering, science, health science, humanities, law and Management. These study programmes are offered at Westville campus, Nelson. R. Mandela campus, Howard campus, Edgewood campus and Pietermaritzburg campus.
University of Kwazulu Natal (UKZN) Required Documents
To apply successfully at UKZN you need to submit the following documents:
- certified copy of your identity document
- Certified copy of your Senior Certificate/National Senior Certificate or equivalent
- Certified Grade 11 report (if you are currently in grade 12)
- Your grade 12 June report (if you are currently in grade 12)

How to Apply at University of Kwazulu Natal (UKZN) for 2025
All first year applications are submitted through the Central Applications Office (CAO). This is a simplified way of applying for more than one programme and at different institutions, using one application form and paying a single application fee. Follow the easy steps below to apply at UKZN through CAO for 2025:
Step 1: Visit the CAO website: www.cao.ac.za
Step 2: Click on the "apply" tab
Step 3: Read the information and click on the "continue with application" tab
Step 4: Enter your ID number or your Cao number. then click on submit
Step 5: Click on the "continue with application" tab
Step 6: Enter All the information requested. Once you have entered all the information requested, click 'Next'
Step 7: A pop-up will appear with your CAO Number, Password and EasyPay Number.
The same information will also be sent to the email address you provided. This information is important in case you want to access your information at a later date.
PLEASE NOTE: YOU HAVE NOT YET COMPLETED YOUR APPLICATION
Step 8: Click 'Continue with Online Application'
Step 9: Capture your next of kin details
Step 10: Enter your grade 11 results or your grade 12 results
Step 11: Choose the courses you want to apply for (you can choose up to 6 choices)
Step 12: Check the information provided in the Summary of your application
Step 13: Click the 'Process My Application’ button at the end of the page
YOUR APPLICATION HAS NOW BEEN SUBMITTED
A message will be displayed on screen informing you that your submission has been successful
Step 14: You can now upload your supporting documents and pay your application fee online OR pay at an EasyPay Outlet
Administration fee payable for South African citizens R250-00 & International applicants R300-00
Once your Administration fee has been received, your application will be made available to the institutions to which you have applied
University of Kwazulu Natal (UKZN) Closing Dates
Majority of UKZN courses close on the 30th of September 2024. Ensure that you check the specific closing date of your desired study programme. You can check the closing dates in the CAO prospectus. Students are always encouraged to apply as soon as applications open to stand a better chance of being considered.
