The University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) is expected to open applications for the 2027 academic year on 2 March 2026. Below is everything you need to know about how to apply, important closing dates, and the admission requirements.
Important WITS 2027 Application Dates
Applications for WITS 2027 are expected to open on 2 March 2026.
Residence applications will open on 1 April 2026.
The following courses close on 30 June 2026:
- Faculty of Health Sciences (all courses)
- Bachelor of Architectural Studies
- Bachelor of Audiology
- Bachelor of Speech-Language Pathology
- BA Film and Television
All other university courses and residence applications close on 30 September 2026.
How to Apply to WITS for 2027
Step 1: Apply Online
Visit the WITS application portal at www.wits.ac.za/applications.
- You may apply for up to three courses.
- Make sure you meet the requirements for each course.
- Use your full name exactly as it appears on your ID or passport.
- If you apply for two courses in the same faculty, it’s a good idea to choose a third course in a less competitive faculty.
- Apply before the closing date to avoid disappointment.
Step 2: Pay the Application Fee and Upload Documents

Required Documents
- Current Grade 12 learners: Final Grade 11 results signed and stamped by your school
- Matriculated applicants: Certified copy of your Matric certificate
- Tertiary applicants: Certified academic records from all institutions attended
Step 3: Application Confirmation
After submitting your application, WITS will send you an email confirming your application. This email will include your person number, which later becomes your student number.
You can use this number to track your application on the WITS self-service portal.
Step 4: Track Your Application and Accept an Offer
- Regularly check your application status online.
- Make sure all documents are uploaded.
- If you receive an offer, log in and accept it.
- Final acceptance depends on your final Matric results.
- If you are placed on a waiting list, follow WITS’ instructions.

Faculties and Courses at WITS

WITS 2027 Admission Requirements
Admission to WITS is competitive and depends on:
- A National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent
- A Bachelor’s degree pass
- Meeting faculty and course-specific requirements
- Your WITS Admission Points Score (APS)
WITS APS Calculation
- English (Home Language or First Additional Language) is compulsory.
- Mathematics is required for most Commerce, Science, Engineering, and Health Sciences courses.
- Mathematical Literacy is accepted for some degrees such as Law, Education, and Humanities.
- APS is calculated using your best seven subjects, including Life Orientation.
