About DUT

Durban University of Technology (DUT) is a leading university of technology in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, formed in 2002 through the merger of ML Sultan Technikon and Technikon Natal. With campuses in Durban and Pietermaritzburg, DUT is one of the largest universities of technology in South Africa, serving approximately 35,000 students across a wide range of applied academic disciplines. DUT offers career-focused programmes in engineering, health sciences, management sciences, arts and design, science, applied sciences, and education. The university is deeply committed to the principles of engaged scholarship, innovation, and community development, with a strong emphasis on producing graduates who are industry-ready and socially responsive. The university has invested significantly in state-of-the-art facilities, research centres, and industry partnerships across the Durban metropolitan area. DUT's City Campus in the Durban CBD, the Steve Biko and ML Sultan campuses, the Indumiso Campus in Pietermaritzburg, and the Riverside Campus provide students with access to specialised facilities across disciplines. DUT is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE), and all its qualifications are registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) by SAQA. The university is a registered NSFAS institution and plays a major role in widening access to higher education for students from historically disadvantaged communities.
