About UniZulu

The University of Zululand (UniZulu) is a historically Black university located in the rural heartland of KwaZulu-Natal, at Kwa-Dlangezwa, near the town of Empangeni on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast. Established in 1960, it is one of South Africa's oldest universities and has played a pivotal role in broadening access to higher education for communities in the northern regions of KwaZulu-Natal. UniZulu offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across the humanities, natural sciences, education, commerce, law, theology, and health sciences. The university's main campus at Kwa-Dlangezwa serves as its primary academic hub, while its Richards Bay Campus focuses on engineering and technology programmes to serve the growing industrial hub in that city. The university is committed to community engagement, African scholarship, and rural development, reflecting its deep roots in the Zulu cultural heritage and its responsibility to the communities it serves. UniZulu actively pursues partnerships with local industry, government, and civil society to translate research into development impact. With an enrolment of approximately 18,000 students, UniZulu continues to grow its academic offerings and research profile while maintaining its mission of widening access to quality higher education in the region.
