If you missed the standard application deadline, don’t worry, the Central Applications Office (CAO) still allows late applications for 2026 entry into universities such as the Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT), University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), and Durban University of Technology (DUT). Applying through CAO is a straightforward online process, but it’s important to be well-prepared to avoid delays.

1. Preparation Before You Apply

Before starting your CAO application, gather all necessary documents:

  • For current Grade 12 students:
    • ID number (from your ID or birth certificate) or passport number
    • Final Grade 11 results
    • Grade 12 June and/or September trial results, if available
  • For students who have completed Grade 12:
    • ID number (from your ID or birth certificate) or passport number
    • Final NSC (National Senior Certificate) results

Having these ready will make the application process smoother and faster.

2. Completing the CAO 2026 Online Application

  1. Visit www.cao.ac.za.
  2. Click the ‘Apply’ button at the top of the homepage.
  3. Read the instructions and select ‘Continue with Application’.
  4. Enter your ID or passport number and submit.
  5. Review the displayed information and continue.
  6. Complete all required fields and click ‘Next’.
  7. A pop-up will provide your CAO number, password, and EasyPay number. Save this information – you’ll need it to access your application.
  8. Review your application summary carefully. Edit any incorrect details before submitting.
  9. Click ‘Process My Application’ to finalize.

You’ll receive a confirmation: “Your Application has been successfully submitted to CAO.”

3. Additional Steps After Submission

  • Pay the Administration Fee: Late applications carry a fee of R470, payable online, later via the CAO portal, or at an EasyPay outlet.
  • Upload Supporting Documents: Submit your ID, school results, and proof of payment. You can upload them during application or later through the ‘Upload My Documents’ option.

Important: Incomplete applications or unpaid fees can delay processing, so act promptly.

Even if the main application period has ended, late applications through CAO give you a chance to secure your spot at MUT, UKZN, or DUT. Be proactive, gather your documents, and submit your application without delay to ensure you don’t miss out on the 2026 academic year.
