Secondly, like any other courses at Unisa, short courses have requirements that applicants have to meet to be accepted. The requirements of Unisa short courses vary depending on the type of the short course you want to apply for, the requirements for advanced short courses will differ from the standard short courses. Most short courses require applicants to contact the department to find the requirements, therefore it is the applicant's responsibility to call or email Unisa to find out if they qualify or not.

Common requirements of UNISA short courses

  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent qualification.
  • Some courses may require 60% for the NSC subject that is relevant to the short course.
  • Some courses may also require work experience or other relevant qualifications.

  2. Click on the "Find a Short Learning Programme" tab.
  3. Scroll down and click n the faculty/college you are interested in
  4. Click on the course you want to apply for
  5. Then you will see the minimum requirements and more

 

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Apply for Unisa Short Courses

To apply successfully at Unisa you need to have a valid email address and phone numbers, Easy right? Now let's break down the process on how to apply online at UNISA for short courses step by step.

STEP 1: visit the UNISA Website

Firstly, you have to visit the UNISA Website by typing UNISA on your browser. Then click on the Unisa website with the domain name; www.unisa.ac.za. Scroll down a bit and click on Apply. After clicking apply, click on First time Unisa applicant, if it is the first time applying and you don't have the Unisa student number. Click on returning students, if you have applied before at Unisa and you do have the Unisa Student number. 

Then click on Step 4: Apply for admission then click on Apply now. After clicking on Apply now, you will be taken to the Unisa application tool. This is where you will choose whether you are applying for undergraduate, Postgraduate, Short Learning, or Masters/Doctoral Programmes.

 

Then select YES or No. Yes , if you already have a student number and No, if you don't have a student number

STEP 2: Personal Information 

Fill in your personal details such as names, surname, date of birth and ID number. If you already have a student number you will be required to enter your personal details and your student number. When applying with a phone ensure that you rotate your phone to be able to enter your student number.

STEP 3: Choosing Courses

In this step you will get to choose short courses you desire to pursue. You have the opportunity of choosing first and second choice. You need to meet requirements for the both courses, if you don't qualify the system will not allow you to continue with the application.

STEP 4: Fill in your address

Continue with the application and fill in your home and postal address. This is important since UNISA is a distance learning institution and they require your address to communicate with you and to deliver your study materials. You will not be able to continue with your application if you enter invalid address or an address the system doesn't recognize. 

STEP 5: School Leaving Information

In this particular step you will be required to fill in your school leaving information such as your matric endorsement (whether you have passed with a higher certificate, diploma or bachelor), the year you completed your matric and the last school you attended. This information is crucial in your application therefore do not provide false information because you will be required to upload your matric certificate, statement or your grade 11 results.

 

STEP 6: Upload Documents

UNISA requires various supporting documents to be submitted along with your online application. These documents include certified copies of your academic transcripts, identification documents, Matric certificate/grade 11 results and any other documents specified in the application requirements. Gather these documents in advance to ensure a smooth application process.

NB: Some of the short courses require applicants to submit a proof of employment.

 

STEP 7: Submit your application. 

The last step of the online application is to submit your application. You will receive an acknowledgement of your application and your student number. Make sure that you note down your student number. You will need the student number for future communication with Unisa. You do not need to pay application fee for Unisa short courses.

UNISA provides updates on the application status, including whether it is under review, requires further information, has been accepted or has been rejected.
