NSFAS funded occupational programmes in TVET Colleges

TVET Colleges in South Africa have introduced new programmes which are called "Occupational Programmes". These programmes aim to give students the skills needed in the workplace. In this article we will explore all the occupational programmes that are NSFAS funded. 

 

What are occupational programmes?

You must be wondering what are occupational programmes? Well, occupational programmes are are training qualifications that are specifically designed to empower students with job ready skills. They are hands on and focus on the practical tasks that are needed in the real world. 

The occupational programmes duration in 3 years. In this 3 years students will gain experience of the chosen occupation through practical assessments. Occupational Programmes levels range from L2 to L5

 

NSFAS funded occupational programmes in TVET Colleges

Previously majority of occupational programmes were not funded by NSFAS, this meant that the students pursuing occupational programmes had to fund their studies from start to finish.

Since the Department of higher education has phased out nated courses, the occupational programmes will be fully funded by the national student financial aid scheme (NSFAS).

Who funds Occupational Programmes?

Funding for occupational programmes come from different sources including NSFAS. Sector Education and Training Authority also play a huge in funding these programmes. This funding is important as it directly addresses the unemployment rate in South Africa. 

Funded students after completing their occupational programmes will be employed in various sectors in South Africa. 

 

How to apply for occupational programmes 

Occupational programmes are offered in 50 TVET Colleges in South Africa. Students can apply by visiting the website of the TVET College of their choice and submit their online application to be considered.
