Teaching programmes available for 2026 at UJ

According to the university, four Bachelor of Education (BEd) in Senior Phase and FET Teaching programmes are currently open for 2026 late applications. These qualifications are designed to prepare student teachers to work with learners in Grades 7 to 12 and to meet the growing demand for skilled educators in South African schools.

The UJ available teaching programmes for 2026 late applications are:

Bachelor of Education in Senior Phase and FET Teaching (Accounting)

Bachelor of Education in Senior Phase and FET Teaching (Economics)

Bachelor of Education in Senior Phase and FET Teaching (Afrikaans)

Bachelor of Education in Senior Phase and FET Teaching (Physical Sciences)

All four programmes are offered at UJ’s Auckland Park Kingsway Campus, which houses the Faculty of Education.

Preparing teachers for diverse classrooms

UJ’s Faculty of Education is known for its focus on producing teachers who are reflective, socially aware, and capable of working in diverse learning environments.

The programmes combine academic coursework with practical teaching experience in schools, allowing student teachers to gain real classroom exposure while completing their studies.

Through this integrated approach, students develop a strong understanding of child and adolescent development, curriculum delivery, and inclusive education practices.

The faculty’s training model aims to ensure that graduates are classroom-ready and able to respond to the challenges facing South African schools.

Overview of the available teaching specialisations

Accounting (Senior Phase and FET)

The Accounting specialisation equips future teachers with both subject knowledge and teaching methodology. Graduates are prepared to teach Accounting from Grade 7 through to Grade 12, with a strong focus on financial literacy, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

Economics (Senior Phase and FET)

This programme prepares students to teach Economics at high school level. It places emphasis on understanding economic systems, social and economic challenges, and critical thinking, enabling teachers to guide learners through topics such as unemployment, inflation, and inequality.

Afrikaans (Senior Phase and FET)

The Afrikaans specialisation is aimed at students who wish to teach Afrikaans as a Home Language or First Additional Language. The programme focuses on language proficiency, literature, and teaching strategies that support language development and cultural understanding.

Physical Sciences (Senior Phase and FET)

This programme trains future teachers to teach Physical Sciences, including Physics and Chemistry. It combines strong content knowledge with innovative teaching approaches designed to encourage learner interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects.

Minimum admission requirements for 2026

UJ has outlined clear minimum requirements for applicants interested in these teaching courses for 2026 late applications. While meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee admission, applicants are encouraged to ensure they qualify before applying.
