UKZN Teaching Courses Open for 2026 Applications
1. B Ed (Foundation Phase) Grade R - 3
- APS Score Requirement: 28
- Minimum Requirements:
- National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a Degree pass
- English (Home Language or First Additional Language) at level 4
- Any other official South African language (Home Language or First Additional Language) at level 4
- Life Orientation at level 4
- Mathematics at level 3 OR Mathematical Literacy at level 4
This course trains students to teach young children in Grade R to Grade 3. It focuses on child development, reading, writing, and basic maths skills.
2. B Ed (Intermediate Phase) Grade 4 - 6
- APS Score Requirement: 28
- Minimum Requirements:
- NSC Degree pass
- English (Home Language or First Additional Language) at level 4
- Life Orientation at level 4
- Level 5 in two of these subjects:
- Mathematics
- Mathematical Literacy
- Information Technology
- Electrical Technology
- Mechanical Technology
- Computer Applications Technology
- Agricultural Technology
- Civil Technology
- Engineering Graphics & Design
- Any other NSC subjects
- If you are in the NS-TECH stream, you need Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy at level 5
- If you are in the Mathematics stream, you must have Pure Mathematics at level 5
This course prepares students to teach learners in Grades 4 to 6. It includes different subjects and helps students develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
3. B Ed (Senior Phase/Further Education & Training) Grade 7 - 12
- APS Score Requirement: 28
- Minimum Requirements:
- NSC Degree pass
- English (Home Language or First Additional Language) at level 4
- Life Orientation at level 4
- Level 5 in any two other NSC subjects related to the package you choose
- Specializations include:
- Accounting FET
- Computer Science FET
- Drama FET
- English FET
- History FET
- Information Systems FET
- Life Sciences FET
- Life Orientation FET
- Mathematics FET
- Physical Sciences FET
This course is for those who want to teach high school students. It helps future teachers become experts in their chosen subjects.
How to Apply for UKZN Teaching Courses Open for 2026 Applications
The UKZN applications for the 2026 academic year are done through the CAO platform. Here’s how to apply:
- Visit the CAO Online Application Portal
- Click on the “Apply” tab
- Read the information and click “Continue with application”
- Enter your ID number or CAO number, then click Submit
- Click “Continue with application” again
- Fill in all the requested information and click Next
- Provide your next of kin details
- Enter your Grade 11 or Grade 12 results
- Choose up to 6 courses you want to apply for
- Make sure all your information is correct
- Submit your CAO application
- After submitting, you will need to upload your documents
- Pay your application fee online or at an EasyPay outlet
UKZN Application Fee for 2026 Online Applications
- South African applicants: R250
- International applicants: R300
Once you pay your application fee, your application will be sent to the institutions you applied for.
CAO (Central Applications Office) Payment Methods
- Online Payment (recommended)
- Direct Deposit or EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer)
- EasyPay at Retail Stores (Checkers, Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Woolworths, or other EasyPay outlets). Use the EasyPay reference number on your CAO application form.
UKZN Teaching Courses Opening and Closing Dates
- Applications Opened: 1st March 2025
- Applications Close: 30th September 2025
- Late Applications: After 30th November (late fee of R470 for South African students)
