Tshwane University of Technology known as TUT has announced that it will not accept walk-in applications for the 2026 academic year in January 2026. Students who want to study at TUT are advised to use the official TUT website to submit their 2026 late applications.

This decision was made to make the application process easy for new students, manage and process the applications they receive in 2026. Tshwane University of Technology has made it clear that prospective students who arrive on campus with the plans of applying there will not be assisted regardless of their circumstances.

TUT returning students are also encouraged to to make use of the online platforms to register, change qualifications and to apply for residence. Returning students will have to make use of their login credentials to access the TUT portal.

WHY NO WALK INS AT TSHWANE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

The reason why Tshwane University of Technology and other higher learning institutions in South Africa does not accept walk ins in January during late applications it is because they are trying to avoid overcrowding, long queues, frustration, and safety concerns.

In previous years, thousands of prospective students would arrive at campuses hoping to apply or secure placement without prior online applications. This often resulted in chaotic scenes, with applicants sleeping outside campuses, standing in queues for hours, and overwhelming university staff. Such situations pose serious health and safety risks, especially during peak registration periods.

By enforcing a strict “no walk-ins” policy, TUT aims to create a safer and more organised application environment that protects both applicants and staff.

Lastly, TUT uses an online application system to ensure fairness and transparency in the selection process. Online applications are processed based on academic merit, availability of space, and compliance with admission requirements.

Allowing walk-ins would disadvantage applicants who followed the correct online process and submitted their applications on time.

TSHWANE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS

TUT receives lots and lots of applications each academic year often exceeding the number of available spaces therefore admission to Tshwane University of Technology is highly competitive in a sense that even though you meet requirements you may not be offered space.

Again applicants are encouraged to check minimum admission requirements on the Tshwane University of Technology prospectus to ensure that they apply for the qualification they qualify for to increase their chances of admission.

Each faculty and qualification have different requirements and admission point score. It is not one size fits all! Just because you qualify for Nursing does not automatically mean you also qualify for Engineering. Carefully check requirements of each course for better outcomes!

The university also warns students to be careful of people who say they can help them get a place at TUT in a special way. Some people may lie and say they can “fix” your application. TUT says this is not true.

TUT does not use helpers, agents, or other people to accept students. Only the university can do applications and give answers. All important messages about applying, getting accepted, and registering come straight from TUT through its official websites and messages.

Always trust information that comes directly from the university.

TUT 2026 ONLINE LATE APPLICATIONS

Late applications for 2026 at TUT are strictly online! applicants with no access to the internet can make use of the public libraries, Thusong Service Centres, schools, and internet cafés.

These facilities can assist applicants in completing and submitting their online applications without needing to visit a TUT campus. The university maintains that a lack of internet access will not be accepted as a reason for walk-in applications.

2025 matriculants awaiting for their matric results are also advised to apply online at TUT for 2026 late applications if they have not already applied.  For the class of 2025 Final admission decisions will be made once Grade 12 results are released, and applicants may be required to submit updated results through the online system.

During the late application period spaces became full real quick therefore once a programme or a course reaches capacity, it will be closed, even if the official application period is still open.

Applicants are therefore encouraged to apply as soon as applications open and to regularly track their application status online.
