General Requirements

To be eligible for the SAMHS 2026 intake, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Be a South African citizen (no dual citizenship).
• Be between 18 – 22 years old with a Grade 12 qualification.
• Be between 18 – 26 years old if holding a three-year tertiary qualification (N6, Diploma, or Degree).
• Have an Admission Point Score (APS) of 24 or above, excluding Life Orientation.
• Have no criminal record or pending cases.
• Meet the medical fitness requirements.
• Have no visible tattoos on legs, lower arms, neck, or face.

SA Military Health Service Available Career Fields

Applicants can apply for one of the following support careers or study opportunities within SAMHS:

Support Careers

• Patient Administration (Grade 12 required)
• Logistics (Grade 12 required)
• Human Resource Management (Grade 12 required)
• Physical Training, Sport and Recreation (PTSR) (Grade 12 required)
• Medical Support Operations (Grade 12 with English Level 4, 2nd Language Level 4, Mathematics/Math Literacy Level 3, Life Science Level 3, and Physical Science/Geography Level 3)
• Health Informatics (Grade 12 with English Level 5, Mathematics Level 4, Physical Science Level 4, plus a Diploma/Degree in ICT)
• Pest Control Operator (Grade 12 with APS of 38+, English Level 4, 2nd Language Level 4, Mathematics Level 5, Physical Science Level 4, Life Science Level 5)
• Chemical Biological Radiation Defence (CBRD) (Grade 12 with English Level 4, Mathematics Level 4, Physical Science Level 4, Life Science Level 4, plus a three-year Diploma or Degree)
• Musician (Grade 12 plus Music Practical Grade 6 or higher certificate from UNISA, TRINITY, or Royal Schools)

• MBChB (Medicine) (APS of 38 and above, English Level 6, Mathematics Level 6, Physical Science Level 6, Life Science Level 6)
• Dental Assistant (Grade 12 with English Level 3, Mathematics Level 2, Life Science Level 2, or a Dental Assistance Certificate with HPCSA registration)
• Pharmacy Assistant (Grade 12 with English, Mathematics, and Life Science all at Level 4)
• Nursing Diploma (Grade 12 with all subjects at Level 4: English, 2nd Language, Life Science, Mathematics/Math Literacy, plus two other subjects at Level 3)
• Auxiliary Nursing (Grade 12 with English Level 4, Additional Language Level 3, Life Science Level 3, Mathematics Level 2 or Maths Literacy Level 3, plus two other subjects at Level 3)
• Emergency Care Assistant (Grade 12 with English Level 5, Mathematics Level 3, Physical Science Level 4, Life Science Level 3, plus two other subjects at Level 3)

1. Download the application form: SAMHS 2026 MSDS Application Form.
2. Complete the application form with all required details.
3. Attach certified copies of:
   • ID document
   • Matric certificate (Only the 2024 statement of results will be accepted)
   • Tertiary qualifications (if applicable)
   • Proof of residence or a letter from your village chief
   • CV
