As of 30 June 2025, SAPS 2026 online applications are officially open for entry level police trainee positions. Thousands of aspiring police officers across the country are advised to apply for this opportunity to be police officer and serve their communities.
The South African Police Services online applications for 2026 are open from 30 June 2025 to 18 July 2025. SAPS online applications allow eligible candidates to apply for various police positions, including trainee posts, through a secure digital platform.
These applications are primarily for entry-level constable positions under the Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP), which forms part of the SAPS recruitment strategy to enhance crime prevention and community policing.
The 2026 recruitment drive is open to the general public, and successful candidates will undergo a structured training programme before being placed at police stations across the country.
To be considered for the SAPS 2026 intake, applicants must meet the following basic criteria:
Go to the official SAPS recruitment portal:
www.saps.gov.za/careers
You will need to register an account using your ID number and contact details. Make sure all information is accurate.
After registering an account, fill in your personal details, qualifications, and previous experience (if any).
You will be asked to upload certified copies of your supporting documents
Once complete, click “Submit.” You should receive a confirmation email or SMS within 48 hours.
Note: SAPS no longer accepts hand-delivered or postal applications for trainee positions – online is the only accepted method.
Many strong candidates are disqualified due to preventable errors. Avoid these common mistakes:
Submitting uncertified or expired documents
Misspelling names or entering details that don’t match your ID
Waiting until the last day when the site is overloaded
Using someone else’s email or phone number
Failing to check spam folders for SAPS emails
Not preparing properly for psychometric testing
Tip: Double-check your application before submission and keep a copy of your confirmation email or screenshot.
Once accepted, trainees will join the Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP), which is a 24-month programme split into:
Academy Phase (12 months):
Focuses on law, human rights, self-defense, physical fitness, weapon handling, and policing theory.
Workplace Exposure (12 months):
Placement at a police station under supervision to apply what you’ve learned in real-life scenarios.
Trainees receive a stipend during the programme and must adhere to strict discipline, routine, and code of conduct. Accommodation and meals are provided during academy training.
The opening of SAPS 2026 online applications is a golden opportunity for South Africans who are passionate about justice, safety, and public service. With a clear recruitment process, government support, and well-structured training, this is your chance to secure a respected and stable career.
If you meet the requirements, don’t wait – apply as soon as possible, prepare for the tests, and stay alert for SAPS communication. South Africa needs dedicated, honest, and hard-working individuals to join the force. Could that be you?
