MUT Application Process 2026: Step-by-Step Guide

1. Visit the CAO Website

The first step in applying to MUT is to go to the Central Applications Office website: www.cao.ac.za. The CAO handles applications for multiple universities in Kwazulu Natal, including MUT, which ensures that all submissions are standardized and processed efficiently.

2. Apply Online Through CAO

Once you are ready, create an account on the CAO portal. You will need a valid email address to register. After registration, you can start your application.

Important notes:

  • You cannot apply directly to MUT, all applications go through CAO.
  • Ensure that you select Mangosuthu University of Technology as your preferred university when filling out your application.
  • You can apply for multiple courses, but you must rank them in order of preference.

3. Fill in Personal and Academic Details

Next, you will need to enter all your personal and academic information:

  • Personal information: Full name, ID number, date of birth, contact details, and nationality.
  • Academic information: Upload your National Senior Certificate (NSC) or your most recent results. If you are an international student, include your equivalent high school results.
  • Supporting documents: Make sure to upload all required documents, such as certified copies of your ID, academic transcripts, and any other relevant certificates. Missing documents can delay the processing of your application.

4. Pay the Late Application Fee

Since this is a late application, you must pay a higher application fee than the standard CAO application fee. The exact amount depends on your citizenship status:

Use your CAO reference number to make the payment. This number is assigned when you first register on the CAO portal and will also be used to track your application.

Pro tip: Keep proof of payment. This is important in case there are any issues with your application being processed.

5. Track Your Application

After submitting your application and paying the fee, you can track the progress of your application via the CAO portal. Log in using your CAO number and password to check whether you have been accepted or not.

Minimum Requirements You Need to Qualify

  • Applicants must have a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent.
  • Some courses require specific subjects with minimum levels (e.g., Mathematics, Sciences).
  • International applicants need valid passports, study permits, and certified results.

NB: meeting minimum requirements doesn’t guarantee a space, especially during late applications.

Bottom Line

MUT is still accepting late applications for the 2026 academic year via CAO until 28 February 2026

You can apply for a variety of courses across science, health, commerce, agriculture, IT and more. However spaces are limited!

Best Wishes!!
