If you're planning to study at a TVET college during the second trimester of 2025, great news: NSFAS applications are opening soon! The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will begin accepting Trimester 2 applications on 12 May 2025, that’s just 8 days away.

Whether you're a new student or returning for another trimester, this is your chance to apply for funding that can cover your tuition, accommodation, transport, and learning materials.

 

NSFAS Application Dates for Trimester 2

  • Opening Date: 12 May 2025
  • Closing Date: 23 May 2025

This gives you just under two weeks to apply, so it’s important to prepare in advance and apply as early as possible.

 

Who Should Apply?

NSFAS Trimester 2 applications are specifically for:

  • Students enrolling at public TVET colleges in Trimester 2
  • South African citizens from households with a combined annual income of R350,000 or less
  • Students who are not already funded by NSFAS for the 2025 academic year

If you’re already receiving NSFAS funding and continuing your studies without a gap, you don’t need to reapply.

 

What You’ll Need to Apply

To avoid delays, make sure you have the following ready before applications open:

  • A copy of your ID or birth certificate
  • Parent(s) or guardian(s)’ ID documents
  • Proof of income (or a declaration form if unemployed)
  • Your admission letter or proof of registration for Trimester 2 at a public TVET college
  • A working cellphone number and email address

 

Required Documents

Make sure you have the following documents ready before you apply:

For all applicants:

  • A certified copy of your South African ID or birth certificate
  • ID copies of parents, legal guardian(s) or spouse
  • Proof of income for parents, guardians, or spouse (latest payslips or income affidavit if unemployed)
  • Consent Form signed by your parent(s), guardian(s), or spouse (downloadable from the NSFAS website)
  • Proof of residence (e.g. utility bill, letter from a local traditional authority, or affidavit)
  • Your cellphone number and email address

If applicable:

  • Disability Annexure A Form (if you have a disability)
  • SAPO confirmation (if you are receiving SASSA grants – no income documents required)
  • Death certificate(s) if parent(s) or guardian(s) are deceased
  • Divorce decree or affidavit if your parents are divorced or separated

 

How to Apply

  1. Visit the official NSFAS website: www.nsfas.org.za
  2. Log into your myNSFAS account or create one if you’re a new applicant.
  3. Fill in the required information and upload the supporting documents.
  4. Submit your application and track your status online.

 

Final Tip: Don’t Wait Until the Last Minute

With a short application window, it’s important to apply as soon as applications open. Last-minute submissions can lead to technical errors or missing documents which may cause your application to be rejected.
