Requirements
You need to check that you qualify for admission. Your admission to Unisa is dependent on you meeting the specific admission requirements for your chosen qualification. If you don’t meet these requirements, you may want to consider alternative qualifications. Such as upgrading your matric results or applying for higher certificate courses
Some Unisa qualifications have limited spaces available. Meeting the general and / specific admission requirements for a qualification does not guarantee that you will be offered a space for the 2024 academic year. Download the Unisa 2024 Prospectus HERE.
Opening and closing dates
Unisa applications for admission for 2024 academic year are open from the 1st of September to 13 October 2023 for undergraduate, honours and postgraduate qualifications. Applications for Masters and Doctoral are open from the 14th of September to 10 November 2023.
Required documents
Before applying at Unisa you need to have the necessary documents to upload during the application process. All applicants starting a new qualification must upload all the required documents, which generally consists of the following:
Copy of your school qualifications (eg Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate)
Copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable) (internet copies will not be accepted)
Copy of your ID document (RSA students) or ID / passport (international students)
Application fee
UNISA application fee is R135 for online applications. Pay the application fee once you've received a student number from Unisa. Use the student number you receive from Unisa AND the application fee reference number (ie STUDENTNUMBER 5370810030) to application fee. This fee is non-refundable even if you decide not to study through Unisa, do not qualify for admission to Unisa or cannot be offered a space due to limited spaces available. Unisa does not accept cash at any of its offices.
HOW TO APPLY ONLINE AT UNISA
Who must apply?
Everyone wanting to start a new qualification must apply for admission. Applicants should ensure that they have valid email address and phone numbers to successfully submit an application at unisa
When may I apply?
Applications for admission to Unisa's undergraduate qualifications (higher certificates, advanced certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas & degrees) for the 2023 academic year are Open.
Follow the following steps to successfully apply at UNISA.
STEP 1: visit the Unisa Website to successfully submit an electronic application.
STEP 2: Fill in all the required personal information
STEP 3: select the two courses you want to apply for (make sure that you qualify for these courses) of you don't qualify the system will not allow you to continue with the application.
STEP 4: Continue with the application and fill in your home and postal address. This is important since Unisa is a distant learning institution and they will require your address to deliver study materials.
STEP 5: upload all the required documents. NB those applying for social work should submit a police clearance and two testimonials. Those applying for Diploma in Grade R should submit a proof of employment since the grade R applicants should be Grade R teachers in primary school or Creche.
STEP 6: Submit your application. You will receive an acknowledgement of your application. Make sure that you note down your student number.
STEP 7: Go to your nearest FNB branch and pay your application fee or you can use your Capitec app to pay the application fee.
UNISA APPLICATION STATUS
Within 60 days of submitting
your application, you will receive communication from the university with the status of your application, based on the submitted results that have been evaluated.
